Case History<\/h2><\/div>

The purpose of the first consultation is to obtain a diagnosis, establish any contributing factors and make sure you are safe to treat.<\/p>\n

We will therefore take a detailed case history regarding your present complaint, but also regarding your medical history and your day-to-day routine. You will not only be asked about your current complaint but also about your work, diet and hobbies, past surgeries, accidents, diseases and medications.<\/p>\n

This information will help us reach an accurate diagnosis and most importantly prepare a tailored treatment serving your needs.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Examination<\/h2><\/div>

Following the case history taking, you will be asked to undress to your underwear. Please make sure that you wear underwear or shorts that make you feel comfortable and allow you to move around at ease. We will observe your posture and ask you to move in certain directions in order to identify any restrictions.<\/p>\n

Osteopaths view the body as one unit<\/strong> and therefore they examine and palpate beyond the areas of the body that are causing discomfort in order to identify the tissues causing the symptoms. For example, arm pain may be related to the nerves in the neck. During the examination, the osteopath may also run some orthopaedic tests, and do a clinical examination of your neurological, cardiovascular and respiratory system. So if it is needed we may do things such as take your reflexes, check your blood pressure and auscultate your lungs.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Treatment<\/h2><\/div>

At the end of the examination, the osteopath will explain<\/strong> what they think is causing you the discomfort and how they can help you.<\/p>\n

Osteopaths use a wide range of manual techniques<\/strong> depending on the idiosyncrasy of the patient<\/strong> and their diagnosis. These techniques include soft tissue massage, joint articulation, muscle stretching and adjustments. At all points, we will explain what we are going to do and why.<\/p>\n

The short-term aim of osteopathic treatment is to release tension, to unlock any restriction and to reduce pain, while the long-term goal is to effectively resolve the cause of the problem by boosting the body\u2019s immunity, rebalancing the nervous system, improving the cardiovascular health and ensuring adequate nerve and blood supply to the tissues. For that reason, the osteopath may also prescribe you exercises, offer nutritional advice and assess your work and exercise ergonomics.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
